Hiking the Y

The week before graduation, we discovered that Dave had never hiked the Y. And everyone knows you can't graduate from BYU without hiking the infamous Y. So, we took the Hauth family (friends from our ward) and set out to put that experience in the books. 

On our way up, we stopped to take in the view of the valley.

Dave's Senior Project

Well it isn't much to look at, but this is the result of my senior project. The name of the project is software radio. Basically, we had to design the system that would receive a decoded signal travelling through the air, recognize that signal decode it and output the results. The reason it is called software radio is because instead of using a normal processor we had it linked up to a digital processor. We had to design all the circuitry to receive the signal and then write all the code to access the digital processor and do the decoding. The competition was who could receive the lowest power signal with the least amount of errors. It was a pretty interesting project. It may not be all that great to look at, but to us would-be engineers, this chassis was SWEET!!

We are building a House!

So our big news is that we are building a house in Syracuse, Utah (west of Layton). Dave will be starting a new job as of June at Hill Air Force base as a civilian contracted engineer to work on the F-16 computers doing simulation and other stuff on the software. Michelle will be moving to the Davis County School District and will be teaching 2nd grade at Parkside, the new Clinton elementary school.

Here is our little plot of land that soon will be our home. The hole will be dug June 26th and the goal is to be able to move in October 26th. This last week we had our design selection meeting where we got together and discussed all the upgrades we want as well as all the colors, carpets, cabinets, you name it. After nearly 4 hours, this is what we came up with.

Here is the map of the community we are building in. It is called Summerset. We are building a Cascade model. Our lot is #12 and the house will be facing into the circle towards northwest.

This is a picture of what the house in general looks like. The difference will be that the garage area will be all brick as well as the far left window area with shutters. 

Here is the floor plan for our home sweet home to be. The stairs go to an unfinished basement. We'll first work on having kids, then we'll work on finishing the basement! 

Brick colors huh? Aren't these all the same? 

This picture has a lot. This is the exterior of our home. On the far right is the color of our shingles. Then on the left from top to bottom we have two colors of stucco, we will have the lighter one be main and have a darker trim. To the left of the two stucco samples is a circular sample of the garage door color. Then the paint swatch shows our front door color, which is the third from the right. Then of course is the brick. That little black thing sticking up from the bottom left is for the black shutters, and then the window color and finally brown trim for the eaves and rain-gutters. Make sense? Yeah it was tough for us to figure it all out too! 

Wait a second... you are telling me that from this tiny little section I'm supposed to decide how this will look in the entire house? We compared with the lights on and the lights off, compared the wall colors (lights on and off of course) and a zillion other ways to decide which one we liked best. 

The floors. A decision was finally made. The carpet selection on the top row, second from right is the one we are going with. It is called walnut shell. The tile on the left will be for the master bath, the tile on the right will be the small bath and laundry room. 

Introducing the Kitchen! The wood on the left will be the floor throughout the entry and kitchen. Our cabinets on the right are maple with the medium stain. It will have black appliances and the countertops are dark sile stone as shown by the small square. And of course, the paint, which is the 2nd square from the bottom. Can you see it yet? 

Here is the fireplace material. The tile will surround the fireplace, with the dark wood mantle, and the carpet sample directly above the tile on the left is the color we will be using. The third lightest paint swatch is a sample of our wall color. It will be nice and cozy! 

Here is the Master bathroom colors. From tile on the left, to neutral/white with pink mink swirl (or something like that) countertops and wood cabinets. 

Finally, here is the colors for the small bathroom. From left to right, the large brown-looking tile is the floor, the white will be the counter tops and the wood will be the cabinets. So when you come to visit, this is what you will see when you do your duty! 

Happy Easter 2006!

It is Easter! You can't have Easter without the eggs, so we bought one of those little coloring kits from Macey's and boiled some eggs. The theme of the kit was sparkles, and it came with paint and little brush things. They didn't turn out as good as they looked on the box, but what can you do? 

Here is the picture of our easter eggs! Just wanted to make sure you knew what these were. If it is an ugly one, it was the one Dave did.
